Introducing Organization
As pioneers in network evolution, we research and develop architectural and elemental technologies of network systems with high processing capacity which support safety and security in society, and technologies for space-time and frequency standards.
We aim to establish comprehensive communications security technology, which enables anyone to exchange information safely and securely anytime, and ICT which will ensure communications in emergencies such as disasters, minimizing damage.
We develop measurement technologies and information application technologies that cover environmental information ranging from living space to the Earth and outer space. Manifold applications of ICT should realize a safe and secure society which will enable us to protect ourselves from disasters and dangers.
Viewing optical and radio frequencies as new network resources, we help to make wireless communications, anywhere on the ground and even in space, seamless, ubiquitous and broadband, and to configure strong global networks. We also grapple with the establishment of diverse trustworthy wireless communication technologies in order to provide high-level wireless services available in various situations.
We are compounded of new areas such as optical, quantum, nano and bio technologies, which will form the foundations of ICT's return to humanity. Incorporating state-of-the-art technologies, we open up new areas of communication and promote interdisciplinary R&D of ICT.
In order to establish a communication environment which overcomes differences in language, knowledge and physical ability, we conduct R&D on diversified communications technologies such as multi-lingual translation, spoken dialogue, and verification of information reliability.
With real and natural stereo audio and video, we establish an environment reproduction system which makes you feel as though you were there actually, aiming to share an environment which utilizes communication and broadcasting networks.
We promote effectiveness and efficiency in the R&D processes, matching researchers' capabilities closely to the respective research goals of the industry, academia and government.
We serve as a contact for those conducting R&D in collaboration with Japanese and overseas research institutes, or those using the results of R&D.
We provide the most effective resources selected from entire spectrum of NICT's and R&D achievements to assist them to improve both the quality of their R&D and its outcome.
We strongly support influential and as yet uncommercialized R&D projects on advanced technologies.
We stimulate private sector research into key technologies which will lead to the creation of new markets. We also invite competent researchers from overseas to private sector companies through the JAPAN TRUST Program.
In line with the government's "New IT Reform Strategy", we aim to create a society in which everyone can enjoy and benefit from user-friendly information and communication services.
We are dedicated to supporting the startup of ICT venture businesses and thus creating new ICT services, to improving ICT infrastructure and thus enabling high-speed and large-capacity broadband, and to dismantling the digital divide.
We are executing the affairs in NICT, which are the overall administration/management including the organization and personnel management, the document administration, etc.
We are executing the financial affairs in NICT, which are the finance management, preparation of finance schedule with various lists, tables, etc. and account settlement, contract conclusion and property administration.
As NICT's compass, this department will contribute for realizing the ubiquitous society by promoting and implementing actively research and development in accordance with the ICT policy in Japan.
We are optimizing the affairs and systems, and managing the informative systems, networks, etc.
