Employment Conditions (Permanent Technical Researchers)


Permanent technical researchers will be hired as research employees whose employment period is not prescribed. (Permanente technical researchers will not be hired as national government employees. The retirement age is 60 years.)

Salary Examples

234,000 yen/month (starting salary of a person with a bachelor’s degree, including researcher adjustment allowance)
   255,000 yen/month (starting salary of a person with a master's degree, including researcher adjustment allowance)
   310,000 yen/month (starting salary of a person with a PhD, including researcher adjustment allowance.)

In addition to the above, the following allowances will be paid in case of meeting requirements:
・ Dependent allowance …… Paid to employees with dependent family members. e.g. 10,000 yen/month for each child.
・ Housing allowance …… Up to a maximum of 27,000 yen/month is paid to employees living in rented accommodation.
・ Commuting allowance …… The amount charged for a commuter pass (up to a maximum of 55,000 yen/month) is paid to employees who commute on public transportation.
・  End-of-term and diligence allowances (bonus) …… Bonus of approximately 4.4-month salary (according to fiscal year 2018's rate) total per year, paid in two installments.
・ Other allowances, including qualification allowance, special allowance for researchers, and extraordinary services allowance, are paid to employees who meet specific conditions.

※ The amount of monthly basic salary shall be determined by taking into account each employee’s academic background, work experience, and research experience, based on NICT's base pay scale for research positions.
※ The amounts stated above represent the approximate amounts of starting salaries as of April 1, 2019.

Work Hours

1.Five-day workweek system, full-time job (average weekly working hours: 37.5 hours) Permanent technical researcher will work under the flextime system, in principle.
2.  Annual paid leave: 15 days/year (April 1 to December 31 of the first year of employment), and 20 days/year (January 1 to December 31 of the second year and onwards).
3.  Employees will also be granted other forms of paid special leave.
4.  Eligible employees are entitled to take childcare and nursing care leave.

Other Points to Note

・ One of the most important factors in the selection process is to ensure that the candidates chosen have sufficient expertise in the relevant field of research. In addition, we take into account candidates' willingness to actively participate in management affairs including project management and promotion and personnel training.
・ We are supposed to actively recruit young or female employees.
・ Scheduled Hiring Date: April 1, 2020 (negotiable)
・ Payment for Travel to Place of Assignment:
Actual expenses will be paid based on NICT's regulations.

Selection Procedures (Permanent Technical Researchers)

<Acceptance of Application Documents and Documentary Screening>
After the application deadline, the documentary screening will be conducted, and those who have passed the screening will be informed, by e-mail, of the schedule for the interview by the executives. (The notification is planned to be sent in the middle of June, 2019,)
<Interviews by Executives (final selection, conducted at the headquarters)>
Applicants who have passed the documentary screening will be interviewed for final selection by NICT executives including board members. (The interview is planned to be held in the beginning of July, 2019.) At the interview, applicants will be additionally asked to submit "presentation materials" (as electric data).

Presentation Materials:
 Please submit your presentation material as electric data (power point).
 No replacement after submission is accepted.
 You cannot bring your own PC with you at the presentation room.
 Additional materials cannot be used at your presentation.
 The duration of your presentation should be around 10 minutes.
 The data size of your presentation must be 10MB at most. 

Please note that any interview-related expenses, including transportation cost, will not be paid by NICT.
