The National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) and Indiana University signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Collaboration in the field of R&D communication network and Advanced Internet Technologies on 3 August 2016. The signing ceremony was held during the 42nd Asia Pacific Advanced Network Meeting (APAN) in Hong Kong, China. Dr. Fumihiko Tomita, Vice President of NICT and Mr. Andrew Lee, Network Architect at International Networks of Indiana University and co-principal investigator of TransPAC4 attended the ceremony to sign the MOU.
Indiana University has been running and managing the TransPAC project funded by National Science Foundation (NSF) and providing a communication infrastructure between Japan and USA to expand and enhance US-Asia connectivity. NICT has had a collaborative relationship through the TransPAC project since the period of the Communications Research Laboratory (CRL), one of NICT’s predecessors and continued to sign MOU as NICT after it was founded.
NICT and Indiana University have interconnected networks. The links between Japan and US of JGN (NICT’s testbed network) and TransPAC have been collaboratively operated, e.g. for mutual network redundancy. With these interconnected networks, NICT and Indiana University are promoting collaborative experiments on various international projects.
Hereafter NICT will continue these activities to reinforce the research collaboration relationship with Indian University for promoting the technical and social demonstration and encouraging new value creation.
