1000 hours worth of speech corpus will be increased to as many as five times that amount in an attempt to sophisticate automatic corpus expansion technology. Further research and development will be done on "automatic speech translation technology," which allows sentences of about 10 words to be translated literally, so that it is accurate when translating between Japanese and three other languages used mainly in Asia and that it is used practically in the sightseeing as well as in business conferences supporting people at a certain linguistic level. As fundamentals for "simultaneous interpretation technologies," basic technologies such as automatic domain adaptation technology for speech-oriented guidance systems in the sightseeing, will also be established to allow for additional information to be provided automatically considering cultural differences.
