converter (LNC) and modulator and demodulator.e antenna system on board AES calculates the posi-tional relation between it and the satellite from two infor-mation sources: an on-board GPS receiver and IRU (Inertial Reference Unit). Based on this information, it drives an antenna control unit (ACU) to control the radiative direc-tion of the antenna for automatic detection and tracking of the satellite. It also provides an interlock function to automatically stop transmitting in such disabling situations as: too large tracking error, or could not receive the signal from satellite. is helps avoid interference quickly.3Flight experiment3.1 Experiment overviewe WINDS AES was mounted on a Gulfstream-III [7] provided by Diamond Air Service, Inc. In addition to the earth station, the plane was mounted with a spectrum analyzer for receiving level measurement, a PC for the data transmission tests, and another PC for data logging. Figure 4 shows the photographs inside the cabin illustrating the earth station and other measurement devices. Figure 5 shows the network conguration used in this experiment.A satellite circuit was connected between the following stations: AES, satellite, and xed ground station (Kashima). e plane was operated based in Nagoya Airport (managed by Aichi prefecture) and ew above the area covered by the Chubu beam of the WINDS multi-beam antenna (Fig. 6).e ight experiment served the following four-fold FiF1 Configuration of AESFiF2 External appearance of AES antennaFiF3 The aircraft used in the experiment: Gulfstream-IIGPS antennaHPAKa-band(27.5–28.6 GHz)AntennaUp converterDown converterIFU-1IDUIF(1.9–3.0 GHz)IF(1.38–2.58 GHz)LAN in the aircraftIRUIFU-2Position Reference burst signalReceiving statusKa-band(17.7–18.8 GHz)Receiving statusPosition and attitudePosition and attitudeACUAntenna state and operationPC for ACU logSatellite orbit information Coaxial cableControl system cableLANcableHPA : High Power AmplifierIFU : Interface UnitIDU :In-door UnitIRU : Inertial Reference UnitACU:Antenna Control Unit3 Ultra-High-Speed Satellite Communication Technology140 Journal of the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology Vol. 64 No. 2 (2017)
