English Version of Application Software "KoeTra" for Assisting Hearing-Impaired Persons Has Been Released

Background
In June of 2013, NICT released the Japanese version of the communication support application software "KoeTra" that utilizes both high-speed and accurate automatic speech recognition, as well as high-quality speech synthesis technology.
What's New

After the release of the Japanese version of "KoeTra", we received comments and requests from many users. It is said that the number of hearing-impaired is about 360 million which corresponds to 5% of world population based on WTO standards. In accordance with these needs, we have developed the English version of “KoeTra” and released it as free application software available for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

Future Plans
You can view a demo of the English version of "KoeTra" at our exhibition booth at the Sapporo Convention Center in Sapporo from July 1 to July 4, 2014 in conjunction with the meeting of Study Group 16 (Multimedia coding, systems and applications) of ITU-T (International Telecommunication Union Telecommunication Standardization Sector).
NICT is planning to accelerate the development of useful application software for assisting the hearing-impaired based on experiments and feedback obtained in our field tests.
