ASEAN IVO Forum 2022 in Thailand

NICT has hosted the ASEAN IVO Forum 2022 in Thailand, which has been jointly sponsored by the National Electronics and Computer Technology Centre (NECTEC), and Chulalongkorn University, was held at said university, with approximately 140 participants, including online participants. ASEAN IVO is a virtual organisation of ASEAN universities and research institutes formed with NICT in February 2015 with the goal of promoting ICT based solutions to the United Nations’ sustainable development goals. The Forum, which is a place to share ideas for solutions to shared societal issues in the ASEAN region and report the results of joint projects, is hosted in an ASEAN country every year with the aim of promoting ICT research and development in the region.

This time, following a welcome address from NICT Vice President Dr. Yano, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University Prof. Kasem and NECTEC Executive Director Dr. Chai, and an exchange of gifts by NICT Vice President Dr. Yano, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University Prof. Supot, and NECTEC Executive Director Dr. Chai, and there was a presentation from the executive Vice President of the Digital Economy Promotion Agency, Ms. Kasama Kongsmak, and an introduction of various ICT R&D promotion programs by the Acting Executive Vice President of the National Science and Technology Development Agency, Dr. Sarun Sumriddetchkajorn, from the Thai government. There were 25 presentations, including poster presentations, on the topics Food, Environment Protection and Disaster Prevention, Secure and Smart community, Health and Welfare, Technology and Applications, with universities and research institutions from the 10 ASEAN countries participating, as well as discussion of the ICT fields that should be strategically promoted.

On the second day, in addition to reporting the development of and reviewing the joint projects supported by NICT through ASEAN IVO’s joint program, finished projects also received commendations for the results of their research activities.

NICT hopes to continue to contribute to the acceleration of developing solutions to the SDGs through joint research activities ASEAN IVO in the future.

Please note, due to COVID-19, last year’s ASEAN IVO Forum was posted online, with 128 participants. Next year’s forum is to be confirmed, and is due to be hosted in November 2023 in an ASEAN Country.
