Multilingual Speech Translation App “VoiceTra”: Updated Version Released and Service Resumed

The National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) has completed its response to a security issue identified in the multilingual speech translation app “VoiceTra” and has released an updated version of the app. Accordingly, the VoiceTra service, which had been temporarily suspended, has now been fully resumed.

1. Actions Taken
NICT has released VoiceTra ver. 9.2.1, which addresses the issue related to destination restriction. Users running ver. 9.1.3 or 9.2.0 are prompted with a message to update to the latest version of the app.
2. Request to Users
If you are using VoiceTra ver. 9.1.3 or ver. 9.2.0, please update to ver. 9.2.1 from the App Store or Google Play.
3. Current Status
At this time, no attacks exploiting the issue addressed in the updated version, or any resulting information leakage have been confirmed.
4. Service Status
To protect the users, the VoiceTra service was temporarily suspended. With the release of the updated app and the completion of the necessary measures to ensure a secure operating environment, the service has now been fully resumed.
5. Future Actions
NICT will continue to take necessary measures to ensure the safe and secure use of VoiceTra. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused to users by the temporary suspension of the service.
